The YMCA Gospel Choir was founded as CJV youthchoir in 1982 in Scheveningen.
At that time the choir consisted of 15 men and women with a band of 4.
Through the years the choir grew to 65 men and women and the band became much more
professional with drums, guitar, bassguitar, piano and Hammondorgan.
Around 1996 our style made some major changes. We could not speak of a youthchoir anymore,
but of a black gospel or gospelchoir.
The roots of this style lie in the American Black Gospel, but also a good soulballad is not
unfamiliar to us. The name changed to YMCA Gospel Choir, we made a CD called "Rain on me"
in 1997, we were invited to several radio-shows like "Gospelpodium" and "Licht op jongerenkoren".
Some singers have contributed on a special broadcast of the "Gospelpodium" with the
Metropole Orchestra.
From august 2000 on, Rob Buis is the new conductor of the choir.
